Jeter and Teixeira win Gold Gloves

<div><p>NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and first baseman Mark Teixeira were among the American League players who won Gold Glove awards on Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced.</p><p>Jeter is now a four-time winner while Teixeira took the award for the third time. Both helped the Bronx Bombers win the World Series for the 27th time earlier this month.</p><p>"I've said it time and time again, playing championship-caliber baseball starts with pitching and defense, and I think those two components were certainly the foundation for our success in 2009," said Jeter.</p><p>Torii Hunter, center fielder with the Los Angeles Angels and Ichiro Suzuki, Japanese right-fielder with the Seattle Mariners, both won the awards in their position for the ninth straight year.</p><p>Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle, Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria and Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones all won their first Gold Glove awards.</p><p>Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer and Detroit second baseman Placido Polanco both claimed the award for the second time.</p><p>The National League awards will be announced on Wednesday.</p><p>(Reporting by Simon Evans in Miami; editing by Justin Palmer)</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=63077009&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
